About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Cruise line stop at Shanghai

I am traveling on the Sapphire Princess and we will be stopping for a day in Shanghai. The information above states airports. Will the 72 hour exemption also apply to visitors arriving and departing by cruise ship?

Thank you, Charles

NO, visit by cruise only applies to 24 hour visa exemption policy. That is to say, it the transit in Shanghai is less than 24 hours, you can apply for a stay permit after arrival if you want to visit the city.

You can apply from the port frontier Inspection station for this permit providing your passport and cruise ticket as proof that you will leave within 24 hours. And you need to fill in the Arrival & Departure Card.
