About:China Transit Visa

I am flying from Saudi Arabia to Hong Kong for 2 days, then Beijing for 2 days then back to Saudi.

I will be seeing and staying with friends in Beijing. Does my travel allow for the 72 hour transit visa as I am stopping in another place along the way? I am leaving and returning from the same city, but making a stop along the way.
