Travelling from Vietnam to Heathrow with 24 hours in Guangzhou - Visa required?

Hi me and a couple of friends are flying through Guangzhou from Vietnam for around a day and wondered if we were eligible for the 72 hour free transit? We are going on to Heathrow after Guangzhou.

a stopover for just 24 hours? but if you hold Vietnam passport, you can not avail 72 hour free transit in Guangzhou. However, visa is not required if you will not leave the airport during stopover regardless what passport you hold.
