About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Do I need a transit visa if I am changing planes in Bejing on my way to Ulaanbaatar - and the same returning home to Los Angeles.

I think you are eligible for 72 hours free transit in Beijing. Thus, you needn't apply for one.
