I think you can spend about three days in Lhasa, one day from Lhasa to Shigatse via Gyangtse. Then stay about one day in Shigatse. Then travel from Shigatse to Dingri and then visit the Everest Base Camp. After that you can go back to Lhasha on the seventh day. For the other days, you may need to spend on the road, as my experience.
During this trip, you can cover Drepung Monastery, Sera Monastery, Norbulingka Park, Potala Palace, Tibet Museum, Jokhang Temple, the Barkhor Street, Yamdrok Yumtso Lake, Gyangtse Old Street, Tashilunpo Monastery, Sakya Monastery, Everest Base Camp and Rongbuk Monastery.
it is suggested to start from Chengdu, because you can find the direct train to that city.
