About:FAQ of Chinese Visa Application

I plan to visit Beijing [as a tourist] this summer with my 13 years old grand daughter.

Can I apply for a visa for her? Is her presence necessary? She's studying and if possible we don't want her to be absent from school for the application.

This is VMG from the Philippines

Yes, you can submit her application on behalf of her. But I think you need to provide a letter from her parents, in which her parents consent you can take her to visit PRC. I am not sure if any other documents are required by the embassy.
