About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Need to register at local police station if our total stopover time is only 18 hours?

Hi, we are travelling from Hong Kong through Shanghai Hongqiao airport to Tokyo. We would like to go outside of the airport to visit some friends. If I understand correctly, after getting the transit permit at the airport, we still need to register with the local police station ... if our transit time is only 18 hours, do we still need to do that?

If you don't accommodate outside of the airport, I don't think you will be required to register at local PSB.
