About:Chinese Embassies and Consulates

I currently have a Residence Permit, but I'll be changing it to a short stay visa

I'll be changing it shortly before my residence permit expires because I'll need the time to wrap up some affairs before leaving.

Will I be allowed to exit China and then re-enter during the validity period of it?

Generally, you can get a tourist L for 30 days, but it can not be used to exit and re-enter because there is no extra entry issued on it. May I know which city you are staying now? maybe you can take advantage of 72 hour free transit for the reentry again.

If you arrive in Mianyang, then I think 72 hours free transit is not applicable to you.
