About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

How do I apply for the 72 hour visa-free transit?

I'm flying by Air China to Beijing, I have a valid passport, I have been several times in China before, and I have outward ticket within less than 18 hour to the next destination. I would like to overnight in downtown Beijing.
I wanted to book my hotel in Beijing, but 1st I need to confirm that I have all confirmed procedures.
I tried to call the Beijing Airport Immigration Inspection (0086-10-56095400), but they answer they don't speak English. So I would like how do I make sure that I can have the clearance before I book the hotel.

Don't worry, visa is not required for a stopover less than 24 hours, you just need to apply for a stay permit after arrival at Beijing airport if you want to go out for a hotel.

Thank you for replying, but your answer didn't reply to my question.
I want to go downtown Beijing, to sleep in a hotel. I need to know if I need to apply for the 72 hours free permit before I board the plane with destination to Beijing.
I read the FAQ and several other information places, and it's all very blurred.
So places write I must contact the airline company and request the application others say that no procedure is required.
I was hoping for a more clear answer.

Hi, as what Ray said above, you just need to apply for a stay permit after arrival at Beijing airport. The permit can be used to go downtown Beijing. It is unnecessary for you to contact the airline in adavance for the application.
