If you belongs to the listed 51 countries, you can avail 72 hour visa exemption if you make direct transit via Shanghai. Just inform the carrier airline about the request then the transit permit can be issued upon arrival at the airport. Keep in mind that the free transit permit does not apply to return trip, for example, Natita-Shanghai-Narita.

Thank you for your reply. Can you confirm that if I arrive in Shanghai (Pu Dong) I cannot depart 2 days laters from Hongquai airport and must depart from the exact airport I arrived in? My itinerary is: London Heathrow, Shanghai, Narita, Kuala Lumpur, Male, London Gatwick

It is ok for you to leave from a differernt Airport-Hongqiao airport. This is allowed only in Shanghai.
