About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Do I need a transit visa? Please advice.

I am in Japan and flying to Manila via Shanghai. I will stay in Shanghai for 12 hours only.

I don't think you should apply for the G type one. You enjoy 24 hours free transit there.
