we're Philippine passport holders, do we need transit visa?

we are leaving on Dec 21, 2013 from Canada and we have a lay over of 15 hrs in Guangzhou airport to connect a flight going to the Manila, Philippines in Dec 23 and going back is 18 hrs layover. and is there a hotel inside the airport where we can stay during our layovers?
