Are there any more specific hardships that the workers faced when builing the Great Wall?

The wall was made on the mountains and ranges, so the laborers had to climb the mountain first and dig for construction. As there was no advanced machines, they had to carry the heavy stone one by one onto the mountain and file them to wall or beacon tower, due to which many people died from being too tired.
