Shanghai and surrounding areas

Would May be a good time to visit SH? Is it necessary to join a packaged tour or would it be convenient and safe if we do it on our own?

March to May and September to November are the best time to go.
In my opinion, traveling on your own is suggested. If you want to save your time and avoid troubles, you can book a tour and the tour agency will arrange your tour all well before your trip.

If you speak Chinese, it's fine to go around Shanghai without having to sign up a tour package. However, do your homework on where to visit :)
