I am already in China with a student visa, how can I change to a tourist L?

Where do I need to go in Shanghai to make the transition?

Hi, this is not allowed within mainland PRC. Maybe you can have a try to do this in Hong Kong. P.S some agencies may able to do this without leaving, but I don't think it is a good choice due to expensive service fee.

Invitation letter issued by your friend and a copy of her Chinese ID are ok for application. But no one here can ensure you that the duration of stay can be approved for 3 months. Generally, a single entry tourist L is issued with 30 days only.
