About:China Transit Visa

what do you mean by "will stay for less than 24 hours and do not leave the specified transit area?"

I am a US Citizen from Japan. I am going to Macau, I have a stop at Shanghai Pudong for a 14hr Layover, and will have to transfer to Shanghai Hongqiao Airport for my next flight the following morning. Is there anything that I need? All I have is a US Passport, Connecting Flight Ticket, and a booked hotel at Hongqiao Inn. Will I still need apply one? What do I need to do? Please answer ASAP.

What it means is as long as you have a confirmed onward ticket to the 3rd destination by flight or etc transport for more than 24 hours, then you need to apply for a G type. You booked a hotel out of the airport, so you definitely need a G type but please make sure how long you will be stuck in the airport.

How does that work? Do you apply there? Because I have the same problem as Senshi, but my flight is two days from now, and I DO NOT have a G type. How will it work if I transfer airports like Senshi, but I do not have G one right now? Can I do it there? Will I have to pay for anything?

Hi Senshi and Erito, I don't agree to what kelly said above. With US passport, you are allowed to transit in Shanghai freely if your stopover is less than 72 hours. If you want to go out of the airport during stopover, you can apply for a stay permit the confirmed ticket for leaving and hotel reservation.
