About:China Visa Entries / Validity / Duration of Stay

My Z visa expires March 2014.

If I apply for my it in mid-February, and it takes approximately 25 days, would that count as over staying or would it be acceptable since a visa would be in process for me?

The people at my work are telling me that they need to process it in December but I want to be able to travel for Christmas holidays.

Any ideas? Suggestions? Thanks!

It is ok becuase you will be given a receipt as proof that it is under processing. But to my understanding it is better to apply in December, because once you get residence permit, it is ok for you to leave and re-enter mainland.

Thanks Gavin, I currently have a residence permit as I worked here in China last year as well. I'm not sure when it expires as my passport is currently being processed. I will only have it December 3rd which is when I am to give it up and have a new visa (and probably residence permit) put in the new passport.

I just figured it could be done after I travel at Christmas and for Chinese New Year and not get kicked out of the country or fined because the visa will be in the process of being added to my new passport.

Does that make sense?

I think you should better visit the local PSB directly for this. As I know, you should get new visa and residence permit in the new passport before leaving for Christmas. Otherwise, you may have to apply again in Canada for entry if you leave without getting these done.
