Get I get an extension after Z visa is cancelled

I have finished my working relationship with my ex company and they cancelled my Z. Now, I'm waiting for my passport which is going to have a "Stay permit" for several days. Can I get a tourist L and/or extension with this stay permit here in China or do I have to go to some other country (HK or Mexico)?
