We wanted to double check that we can leave the airport and get a hotel room in Shanghai without a visa.

Hello. We are planning on flying from Singapore to Sapporo, Japan through Shanghai, China. We willl have a 17 hour layover. We are US citizens. Thanks.

Yes, you can leave the airport and stay in a hotel without visa.
