changing from x type to z visa in china

Question

I recently graduated and got a job in xian. I was wondering about the procedures of changing from a X type to a Z type. I noticed most of your responese are for people abroad. What happens when you are within PRC itself and need to change. Also does one need to fly home and apply from there or all can be processed in PRC without having to leave.

Elijah,I think you should go to the Xian Entry and Exit Management Bureau and ask them if you can apply for it without leaving. In the past, some agencies can help you apply for it and you needn't go back to your own country. However, the situation has changed due to the new regulations implemented on September 1. If the bureau says you should go back to your country to apply for it, then you have no other choice.
