About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Myanmar>Transfer Kunming> Transfer PEK> USA

I would like to fly from Myanmar to the US, there is an option to fly via Kunming (wouldn't leave airport) and PEK (12 hour layover, would like to leave the airport). Is it possible for me to do this journey without a visa? Is it possible for me to leave PEK airport? Many thanks!

Hi, this itinerary does not apply to the 72 hour free transit. But if your stopover in China in total is less than 24 hours, you just need to apply for a 24 hour stay permit after arrival at Kunming airport. With this permit, you are able to go out of the airport during transit.

Thanks Nicholas. I asked the same question of China Eastern and their reply was:

"Thank you for your email, according to your flight planning, you have to have valid Chinese visa, as you mentioned, your flight routes as Mandalay-Kunming-Beijing-Seattle, it’s not suitable for 24hrs or 72 hrs free transit visa request, relevant clause please refer to local Chinese embassy."

Is there something that we are misunderstanding, or is this airline representative wrong?

Thanks
Mark

That is to say, visa is always required for a transit via two cities in mainland PRC?? thanks Mark for sharing this information here. I think we should better confirm this with Beijing International Airport again. I got this number 0086-10-56095400 if you need.
