Tea and soup in China

Is it considered impolite to drink the broth directly from the bowl? I have seen this done in Ramen shops on occasion, but consumed with a spoon elsewhere and have never seen someone drink from the bowl at a Chinese restaurant. Are there any rules that should be observed when dining alone in a Chinese restaurant? Should I still serve myself a portion on the plate, or can I eat directly from the plate/bowl the food arrived in? Any rules for pouring/drinking tea? I love the ceremony of Asian culture.

You are right that it is impolite to drink broth & soup directly from a bowl or tea from a pot, especially in group dinner and public situations.

There is no so-called rules to be observed in the restaurant, and it is just from morality and for manners. Anyway, if you have dishes alone, it is ok to service yourself directly instead of taking into a plate and then have it. If for soups, it is generally necessary to have your portion step to step.

For teas, we usually don't drink it up once. Just sip it little by little and finish the whole cup of tea after several times.
