I am American and my wife is Chinese. If we were to have a child in China, would he or she be able to obtain a US citizenship? (The child being born in China)

Yes, she is, but she has to give up her Chinese nationality first.

your child is already a us citizen , even if born in china , you are its father, , all you have to do is go to embassy, Or consulate, , file as us citizen born abroad, , (note you may be asked to take a DNA test) you and child, , then you will be issued a citizen born abroad birth certificate, and a pass port for your child,, at this point your child has duel citizenship, , usa reconizes this china does not, for your child to leave your wife will have to file papers in her hometown for child to give up chinese citizenship then you can get a one time exit visa for your child to exit china, , as being a usa citizen, born in china she did not enter thru normal visa travel procedures, , a exit visa book, will be issued to child, you are then free to go with child to usa , , no special thing is needed to enter usa , child is us passport holder, i have been thru this entire process i know about this

not true, you can go to usa consulate, file papers for usa citizenship child born abroad, (you have until age 18 to do this, , but the earlier the better, , you may be asked for child and yourself a dna test, , dates and labs will be provided, its not cheap, , and may require you to be in usa to take(not the child), you can apply for usa passport for child at the same time, , as born abroad papers, after all the crap, , you will get certificate, of birth abroad and passport, , at this point your child will have chinese &usa citizenship, , but you cannot leavce china until you get your wife to go to public security office in her home town and file papers to remove chinese citizenship, then you can get a one time exit visa book from chinese goverment for exit travel , at this point your child is only usa citizenship, , YOU do not HAVE TO LOSE CHILDS CHINA CITIZENSHIP , before getting usa citizenship, usa law states , any child born to any one of usa citizen, abroad, is a usa citizen, , you just have to file the papers and prove child is yours, , china will not reconize it until chinese citizenship is dropped, m, the advantage is your child can go thru chinese education system and stay in china, as long as you deem needed, and still have usa citizenship, but you must file for usa citizenship before age 18, but i suggest do it now, , you can at anytime , drop chinese citizenship, for easy travel, to usa, , this information i give is accurate, because i have lived it and done this my child was born in hubei china
