About:Shanghai Travel

Western nationals do not require a visa, only have to show USA passport when enter Shanghai

When my wife and I arrive in SH in November, all we must do at the airport is show our valid USA passports to immigration officers? China entry is free?

I take it you are only going to be in SH City for less than 72 hours and then will leave china.

Yes, you will have to get a visa for your 5 day stay.
