Travellers on L tourist visa seeking to stay for some months

I have been to Beijing 5 times in the last year. I have just retired and will have many months available to me to live and experience life in Beijing. I have a 1 year multi entry L type. I am wondering if I will have any problems getting a Temporary Residency Permit , being that I am not employed , or in formal study . I have sufficient funds to prove I can support myself .
Any advice or tips ?
Thanks , STEVE

I am afraid that you may not apply for the temporary residence permit since it can be required when you apply for X and Z types. If you want to stay for longer time, you might extend your L type at the local PSB.
