About:China Holidays & Festivals

We're going to visit Singapore in the first days of January.

We know that many Chinese people live there. We're afraid that everyone will celebrate for a couple of days and many shops and sights to visit will be closed. Could you tell us what to expect? Thanks

There are many Chinese living there, but most of the shops will open from the third day of the New Year. So please do not worry about it. If you want to, just go there and by the way, you can enjoy the Chinese traditional custom during the Spring Festival.

Oh, forget to tell you. The Chinese New Year is always on the first days of Chinese lunar calender. If you plan to go there in the Jan, 2014 of Gregorian calender, there is no need to worry about the business hours.

Hi Julia, Gilts is correct.

Chinese New Year is celebrated according to the lunar calendar (31 Jan, 1 Feb 2014) . It should not affect your visit here in early January. Even if you do visit then, you will still find many 24hrs global fast food and cafe joints in operation. 24hrs Most convenient shops will also be in operation throughout.

For retail shops:
eve of CNY (Jan 30 2014)
Most of the retail shops will close in the evening for the Chinese to enjoy their reunion dinnerat home.
on CNY (Jan 31 2014)
National Holiday. Most retail shops will be closed. The Chinese will usually be visiting their relatives.
1 Feb 2014,
National Holiday. Some of the retail shops will resume operation.
2nd Feb 2014
Most shops would have resumed operations.
