passport required?

I am currently in China for work. My passport is with immigration in order to extend my stay however I need to go to Guangzhou. Is a photocopy of my passport sufficient identification or do I require the real thing to catch bullet train?

Generally speaking, you only need to take the paper ticket to board the train. Sometimes, the conductor wil check passengers' ID cards and passports. Sometimes, they don't. To smooth your trip, you'd better take your passport.
