visa for back pack from malaysia

dear all,
I have been to beijing for two time and most of time on meeting friends and sightseeing in beijing. I usually will not stay more than 10 days in Beijing. I apply L in Kuala Lumpur. But effective 1/9/2013 the new rule for Malaysian L category where malaysia whom travel alone will need to get local tour group and cannot travel alone. I try to get the consul and they cannot reach for comment.
Now my problem is I have all my ticket and hotel booking fully paid before 1/8/2013. My question is do I need to travel in Tour Group as I prefer to wine and dine with my Local Beijing friend.
Second my wife is first time travel to Beijing and i did not want to let her down as she did not want to join the tour group. We have limited budget and i hoping someone can guide me here.

thank you.

Kenneth

Are you sure? the new rule requires to travel in a tour group?? I have not heard about this do far. I think it is wise to contact the CVASC in KL directly for the latest requirements.

If the officers from CVASC require those documents, it must be true, and the Chinese embassy requires them as well. So, you may need to join a tour to get the tourist L granted.
