Rush Processing of Z Visa in Chicago

I'll be teaching English at a high school starting on Sept. 1. My employer says the paperwork is with officials in China now and I'm awaiting the go-ahead to take my passport to the Chicago Consulate. Because the school was hoping I could arrive in China around August 26 or 27, and I'm in Michigan, I'm not sure that the usual 4-day processing time would be quick enough.

For the 1-day rush processing, does that mean if I drop everything off right after the consulate opens that I can pick up my passport the same afternoon?

Yes, you can get it if all your documents are ok. Remember that you need to pay 30 USD for the rush service charge.
