It is hard to tell you the exact number of Chinese religions; however, the major ones are Buddhism, Taoism, Muslim, Christianism, and Catholicism. The first three are Chinese traditional beliefs and the last two are becoming more and more popular in mordern society.

mahayana is a branch of buddhism actually. Due to the different enviorments, Buddhism has braches, such as mahayana and Tibetan Buddhism.
