why is it called great wall of china

As it played an important to protect its people and territory from being attacked as a parclose/wall and it extends around 5,000mi (such a long distance), it got the name of Chang Cheng长城 in Chinese (Long Wall). When it is translated to English, to present its grandness, it is called Great Wall.
