I went to the Western Hills area from Kunming city centre yesterday and this is how is did it: Departing from Jinbi square in the city, i took bus 73 all the way until the last stop (can't miss it). This takes about 45 minutes. There you can change for bus 94, again all the way until the last stop (everyone will get off and a new bunch of people will come in, so it is hard no miss it). Each bus is 1 yuan per person that you pay when entering the bus. Once there, you can take a mini bus (15yuan) to the top of the hill. You walk for a minute and you arrive at the ticket office. I paid 40Yuan to get in and walk all the way down passing through the dragon gate and many other temples, back to the place bus 94 dropped me off. It took a good two hours. The views on the top are breathtaking, the most beautiful i've seen in China, highly recommend this. I think you can also get a combo ticket to take the cable car up and go inside all the temple. It is 100Yuan per person.
