About:Xinjiang Travel

Hi, I am planning to visit Xinjiang in september and I am trying to figure out the best way to get around.

I will probably visit the following town (and sorroundings): (Jiāyugùān, Dūnhuáng) Hāmi ,Turpan,Urumqi and Kashgar. I found on the internet the trains timetable but can't find a bus one, can you help me? Also, can you tell me if it is possible to do part of the transfers hiring a car with driver ( I underestand that I will not be allowed to drive with Italian/International license) and how expensive it would be?

Thanks very much
Alex

Generally, there are buses in services to reach the places you mentioned above. But would you mind telling me your specific travel route? Then I can find out details of the buses between for u.

As for car rental travel, it shall be more convenient. However, it would be very expensive.

Hi Liana, thanks for your reply. My travel route would be

Beijing -> Jiāyugùān by train
Jiāyugùān -> Dūnhuáng -> Hāmi -> Turpan -> Urumqi by train/bus/car
Urumqi -> Kashgar by flight
Kashgar -> Beijing by flight

Since I only have 14 days and do not want to book all transfers in advance I would like to understand if it will be easy to find transports available and also how difficult it will be buyng the tickets speaking english.

When you say the car would be very expensive how much do you think for a 300/400 km transfer? We are 3 people traveling together so maybe sharing the cost may be affordable.

Thanks again
Alex

From Beijing to Jiayuguan and Jiayuguan to Dunhuang, you can book the train tickets in advance and it is easy to do.
From Dunhuang to Hami, it is suggested to take the long-distance bus and you can buy one day before your departure. From Hami, I heard the bus is less and you still need to book one day before. From Turpan to Urumqi, you can take trains and the train tickets are not hard to buy.
The flights' tickets are easy to get if you book online no matter what kind of language you use.

For hire a car, the fare is around 400 to 500 one day for a four-seat car running about 300km.
