It is no need to get a visa if you want to get out of the GZ airport. You just need to a 24-hour stay permit if you want to get out of the airport.
The 72-hour visa free policy is not available in GZ now.

Approved by the State Council, GZ will officially implement 72-hour visa-free policy at Baiyun International Airport (CAN) from Aug. 1, which will allow transit passengers from 45 countries to stay in the city for up to 72 hours without a visa, according to a news conference held by GZ provincial government on July 22.
