how to buy subway tickets in xian?

Hi,I understand from this site that subway and most buses are self-services (are buses within the main city area self-service?). So there are some vending machines for which you can buy your tickets from. Do these machines have english description of the destination or should I know the chinese character for the destination when using these machines? Thanks in advance.Jose

Please do not worry. The vending machines has English description of destinations. Also most of the local public buses are self-service.
