About:Marriage Registration in China

Marriage registered in 1997 in South Africa, never consumed and no contact

I was hoping for the best, yet I could not make it. Not only we did not stay a single day together, I last saw the so called spouse in 1998. We virtually met only several times. Nearly always for short times and nothing more. The lady was extremely evasive. It turned out, she needed the marriage for residence permit. She was a Chinese national. Now, I want to get married in mainland China. How can I prove to the officials that I am single?

Hey Robert,

In order to get married in China, you have to provide a single certificate. Since you got married in South Africa, I am afraid that you need to get a divorce paper to prove you are single.
