How can I go for 2-3 months?

Hi,

I'm interested in going to China to travel and study mandarin for 2-3 months, and would ideally not like to do it at a school, but rather just hire tutors while I travel around. I understand that the tourist visa is usually only 30 days, how can I go for longer?
