About:Guangzhou Railway Station

Bus travel from Guangzhou to Kaiping.

I know that it takes 2 hours of driving to go to Kaiping and it's about 80 miles away from GZ.................so will a train take us there? What would be the train fare? Does it goes down all the way to Kaiping? I also need information of FARES, schedules, etc. Are local hotels near by that is walking distance? Do do we write to about getting the bus or train?

If I stay in Kaiping over night or for couple of days..........to meet my Mom's relatives.....Are there local taxi's, tour guides with cars, are there local taxi service for the area....

....how am I able to get back to GZ

I'm afraid no train runs for the journey. The best way to travel is to take the direct bus. You can easily catch a direct bus at Guangfo Bus Station. Buses are scheduled from 07:00 to 20:30 and the bus fare is CNY61/person.

Yes, you may find a taxi to travel for the journey. You may need to spend CNY400-500 on that.

To return to GZ, you can easily catch a direct bus at Kaiping Bus Station. You can take your luggage onboard and for the large ones, they have baggage racks. I remember the bus will take you to GZ Provincial Bus Station near the local railway station. And the bus fare is around CNY60.

Hello...I just want to reconfirm your post. I will arrive at GZ Baiyun airport and will go to Provincial bus station by the GZ railway station and take the bus directly to Kaiping Bus station on Xijiao Rd. Will the bus sign say
Kaiping Bus Station? Some routes say Kaiping Shilkou or Kaiping Changsa...it's so confusing! Didn't see one that just says Kaiping Bus Station. We are staying at the Wilson Hotel on Musha Rd. by the Kaiping bus Station.
Thanks!

The buses from the Guangdong Provincial Bus Station will reach Kaiping Bus Station and the bus sign will say Kaiping Bus Station.

As I know, from this provincial bus station, there are buses for this bus station on Xijiao Road and Shuikou Bus Station.

The Kaiping Bus Station on Xijiao Road is in Changsha District, so many people also call it Changsha Bus Station and actually these two stations refer to one.

Hope this time, it is clear for you.

I'm Betty...putting in a REPLY...Thanks to ALL who respond. It's our FIRST journey to China without going with a tour group. We did the trip ourselves. It REALLY HELPS to do a lot of research, plan our trip, the route, the mode of transportation BEFORE one leaves home esp. to a foreign country when the language is not a familiar one. A COUPLE of tips...always use YAHOO!, GOOGLE search, Wikipedia and watch OTHER people's experiences and adventures in the areas you are visiting on U-Tube. It's amazing what information you will find. Things like:
1. Always give EXACT fare to Taxi driver..or they'll give you fake money back as change. Use a Taxi that has a meter mounted to the dash, the others who don't are not authorized taxis and will take you for your money. (FLIP CARDS with HOTEL NAMEs, ADDRESS in both languages)
2. Find out where all the transferred points are located, the schedule, the costs for planes, trains, buses.
3. Always have a stack of FLIP translation cards with YOUR LANGUAGE on one side and foreign language on the other and a blank note book...if you have to draw a picture as communication.
WE went to China, to Beijing, Harbin, Ghangzhou, to my Mom's old village in Kaiping. We had a GREAT TIME...took over 2000 pixs. THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED US.!!!!
4. OH...the last tip: GET A DISCOVER VISA CARD..(partnered up with China Union Pay) ..no transaction fees and NO INTEREST for the 1st year!!!!!

Hi Betty, thanks for the tips/advice!

The last time I was in Kaiping/Guangzhou/Taishan was in 1997 for a semester of Chinese(Mandarin) before the HK takeover and now I'm going to do a tour and then travel to 'heng har' by myself next week for one month.
I am trying to do a lot of research but it's quite overwhelming! I heard China/HK is very different, so I guess I have to get ready to embark on an adventure.

I have lived in China for 14 years, travelled through most of the country, from metropolises like Shanghai to places that have never seen a foreigner before, and taken probably thousands of taxis. ONCE only in all those journeys did someone try to give me counterfeit money, so I think you are alarming people unnecessarily.

Youtube is probably not the best place to get a true picture of China.
