Visiting China for a holiday (14 days)

Hi, I bought a ticket online but didn't see any information about Visa. Do we still need one to enter/exit or are we exempted? I'm a UK citizen.

You need to apply for a tourist L in advance. If you are now in Japan, you should apply through a travel agency there.

But I bought my ticket online through an online travel agent. Can I go to any agency to get my L?

You can have a try anyway. For most agencies, they are unwilling to handle the application only without booking flights or hotels through them.
