Business attire - Is a suit necessary when meeting in HK?

I'm having a business meeting in Hong Kong soon and it's with people I've previously worked with remotely. I'm told that wearing a suit is a must in HK but considering the temperatures and me not being used that that weather, I prefer wearing a shirt and tie. Would this be a problem? Even with the AC running, I find it too hot to be wearing a full suit. I'm not in a sales or executive position, but at the same time I don't want to leave a bad impression.

For the formal meeting, it should have been a practice to wear suit in HK. So you can take along both the shirt and suit in case.
