About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Visa needed for stay in Guangzhou from 06:30 AM to 7:00 PM on 30 JUL 2013 ?

Hello, we arrive in Guangzhou from Amsterdam on 30 JUL 2013 at 06:30 AM, and leave Guangzhou to Melbourne at 9:00 PM. Is it necessary or can we go free transit to the hotel whihc is in the airport zone (Pullman hotel) ?

It seems that new policy adopted by the Chinese Government on 30th June 2012 which came into force as of July 1, 2013 states that certain nationalities are now entitled to a 72 hour free transit at Guangzhou Baiyun Airport if they are in transit between two different countries. i.e. from UK to Guangzhou to New Zealand.

You must have a valid travel document (passport etc) and a confirmed flight to your destination to exit the airport and into the Pullman Hotel or the local area.

I have written to the Chinese Embassy in London and their Processing Centre to confirm this policy is currently in force.

I travel to NZ in October via Guangzhou so hopefully somebody can tell me if all this is working well.....I'll re-post if I have positive confirmation.
