Z visa company change

I am currently teaching English in China with a valid Z. I am interested in changing schools. Is it possible to get my Z changed to a different school. I have Masters Degree in Education with 10 years USA teaching experience, so that is not a question. I have been told that as long as I am under contract with one school, I cannot switch to another. Is this true?

It is possible to change schools, but you have to renew your work permit, work Z, as well as the residence permit. A release letter from your current school is required for above applications.

You will need to legally leave your current employer which means getting a release letter from them to say that you have been discharged from your contract. Without it no employer will be able to employ you legally. If the new z is processed within the lifetime of the old one it can be a seamless process but if you find yourself being put on an interim tourist L then you need to be prepared for an application run to HK with the new paperwork. The first thing you need to do though is get that release letter, as without it you will be blacklisted and will find it very difficult to get employed.
