About:Chinese Embassy in Australia

Does US citizen require a visa for flight from JFK to Sydeny via Shanghai?

Trying to fly from JFK to Sydney on China Eastern in Dec 2013. Flight changes in Shanghai with a layover of 4 hours and 25 minutes. Do I need a transit G?

No, it is not necessary. Actually, you are eligible to stay for up to 72 hours without visa for a transit in Shanghai.
