Changing a X type to L

I am a British National and need to change my X type to a L type to stay here over the summer. Can I do this without leaving? Or do I have to go to leave the country and go to Hong Kong to apply?

What length of L can I get? I'm hoping for at least 2 months.

Thanks.

You may try to change it at the entry and exit management bureau. You should provide: passport and valid visa, a recent passport size photo, temporary accommodation registration form, a proof from your school that proves you finish your study and bank deposit (3000 USD or 21000 RMB). If you can't do it, you may find an agency to do it for you. Of course you can go to HK and apply for a new one.
