I don't think so. The duration for L type is usally 30 days and you can extend it two times at most. Thus, you can stay in China for 3 months at most. Then you need to leave and apply for another one.

My girlfriend said that I will need to go to the local Public Security Bureau to renew it. Do you know if this is true? Also, is there any other type that will allow me to stay longer? Thank you! and what will I need to do?

Yes, it is true. But as I know, you can extend it at most twice. Presently, you are only eligible to apply for a tourist L.

Okay, thank you Hank, this information has helped me a lot I really appreciate it, but how long does it allow me to stay in total if I renew it twice? Cause I looked and it says it will allow you 30days to 3months to stay, now do I ask for 90 days (3months) if that is what I want?

A tourist L is generally issued with 30 days as duration. For L extension, it is also issued with 30 days each. So, you are allowed to stay for 3 months in total. You can ask for a longer duration to your application form, but the consular officers have right to make the final decision.

You can only do extension there. Otherwise, you have to exit and apply for a new one outside of mainland. At present, it is possible for you to apply in HK. You can also contact a travel agency for the latest requirements.
