About:China Visa Entries / Validity / Duration of Stay

Confused about Single/Multiple Entries

I'm applying for a X type one to China within a week probably and I am confused about the entries. As my study period is 4 years, they will issue it for 4 years. If not, I don't think it's problem to extend it. But, I might get back to my country on vacations. So do I need to apply for multiple entries? or Is it that I can apply for single entry and get back to my country after the expiration date of the entrance?(probably after 3 months of the entry)

It is not what you think about it. The X type one is only valid for 30 days. When you arrive in China, you need to apply for the resident permit as soon as possible from the local entry and exit management bureau. It is they who decide how long your resident permit is valid. Just remember to renew it (usually seven days before it exipres) before its expiration. As long as you have valid resident permit, you can enter and exit China without visa as you wish.

So what do the entry types as Single, Double or Multiple mean?

Hi, Rose is right. Single/double/multiple are issued to types such as tourist L and business F. For student X and work Z holders, they are required to apply for a residence permit within 30 days after entry. The permit will work as a multiple entries.

One last question!! Say, valid entrance date is Sept 10, 2013 in my case. I'll reach on 2nd sept. Now my question is do I need to get the resident permit from the authority within sept 10 or I can get it within a month from 2nd september? Just wanna know if the entrance validity applies to getting the residence permit as well or just entering. Thanks!!

You can apply for residence permit within a month from your entry date - 2nd, Sept.
