Do you have recommendation for places to visit between Xian and Beijing?

I have 5 spare days. I can use them to visit Guilin, but I was there 12 years ago, and I wonder what other attractions worth to see in china in this area.

You can go to Luoyang, Shaolin Temple and Pingyao for the 5 days.
In Luoyang, you can go to the Longmen Grottoes, White Horse Temple and Guanlin Temple. For Pingyao, you can see the ancient town in north of China and the Wangjia Reside.
