About:Packing Tips for Traveling China

I am planning a five week trip to China as part of a Fulbright-Hayes educational fellowship. I'd like to take both my netbook and my ipad with. Will this be a problem?

I'd also like to take both my good digital SLR and a small digital camera, both for personal use. Will this be an issue?

If the price of all those your eletronic items is over 5000RMB, you need to declare and you need to pay some tax for them.

What?! But they're not new items! They're already being used. Do we still need to pay taxes on that?

I heard the used laptop is exempt from tax. But for ipad, if its value is within 5,000RMB, you don't need to pay tax. If it is over 5,000RMB, despite new oe used, you need to pay tax.
