About:China Embassy in Thailand

Should I apply in-person or through a messenger/agent?

I am an American residing in Thaiand on a valid long-term work permit. I will be applying for visas to China for myself and family. Am I required to apply in-person or is it possible to apply via a messenger or travel agent?
