Getting an L visa in Hong Kong

I believe that getting an L in HK can involve two processes; one which is similar to that within Shanghai and can take two or more days, and another which is same day collection and delivery. They also both have different requirements in terms of documentation. One requires the same forms as in Shanghai and the other doesn't. The fees are also different. Can anyone tell me what the difference is since we are looking at applying for a 90 day single entry L there. Is seems to be a lot easier to go to HK than to apply here in Shanghai plus the processing time is much shorter. Any response would be appreciated. Thankyou.

But you have to physically in HK for application, it takes time and money as well. If you are now in Shanghai with L, you are suggested to apply extension at Shanghai PSB. About the duration, the officers make the final decision based on documents you provide. I don't think a single entry L can be done easily with 90 day as duration even you apply in HK.

We are currently in Shanghai with a Z and wish to travel for 2-3 months within China and Tibet before we leave. In Shanghai we can obtain the L and have one extension of 30 days but then we must go to HK to get the extra time we would so like to have. I do not know any way around it so HK seems to best option and just to get the 90 days right at the beginning. I do wonder though what the difference in both processes in HK to get the L are though. Thankyou for your reply Blake.

You can get an extension in Shanghai first, and get a new L in HK. The L you get in HK can also be extended within mainland. So, a single entry with 30 days is enough. I don't think it is possible, or no one here can ensure that you will be granted a 90 days in HK at the beginning.
